WEDNESDAY 13th May – THE COPASETICS ftg. JO HARROP

Vocalist JO HARROP (‘young jazz singer with a rich, velvety voice, influenced by Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Nina Simone, Betty Carter, Anita O’Day, Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick’) fronts this forward-looking vocal jazz project which marries tight arrangements and hard swing with what in jazz terms is a decidedly contemporary repertoire. The Copasetics reach into the rock, pop and soul catalogue, playing no material from further back than the 1960s, while staying true to the classic acoustic sound of piano (ALEX WEBB), double bass (MILES DANSO) and drums (SOPHIE ALLOWAY). ‘Alex Webb … plays the piano as nimbly as Fred Astaire dances’ theeasy.com http://www.bluesandsoul.com/live_item/62/jo_harrop_anyanna_johnson_spice_of_life_-_london__261108
